IRA Effective Literacy Website #2

http://www.tumblebooks.com/library/asp/customer_login.asp
TumbleBooks is another great literacy website.  It is an online library of books for children.  The children are able to read the books and follow along with the audio, or mute the volume and read by themselves.  There are hundreds of titles available.
This website is rich in educational resources.  They do not only offer books, but also offer lesson plans, and quizzes to go with the reading.
Students love this website because the stories are read with emotion.  It models reading correctly to children.  It helps to create a love for literacy in children.

The library titles includes fiction and non-fiction.  It has a video selection.  This website is very child-friendly.  Children can listen to the books in class or at home.

I use this website quite a bit in my classroom.

  1. Thank you for this review! I don't have a lot of knowledge about sites that children can navigate on their own--especially children who do not have experience with computers.

  2. I like the feature where you can mute the volume and the child can read on their own or follow along with the audio. Great idea. Thanks for sharing.
