Geo-Narrative Reflection: Beyond the Text

Over the past few days, I explored Google Earth.  I've been trying to figure ways in which I can incorporate it into an 8th grade Reading lesson.  After much contemplation, I decided to use Google Earth as a supplementary resource for an introductory lesson for a Drama Unit, "The Diary of Anne Frank."

I think that Google Earth is a great innovative tool teachers can use to build background knowledge about settings of different stories.  Students will be able to visualize the setting rather than just reading the text.  I'm still working out the kinks of my lesson, but so far, I'm excited to implement it to my 4th quarter unit.  I plan on using Google Earth more often next year once I get the hang of incorporating it in my lessons. Educators want students to be able to make connections to their readings.  Google Earth offers an opportunity for students to take control of their learning by experiencing the text virtually.
