Chargualaf IRA Effective Literacy Website #5: ReadToMeLV
ReadToMeLV was created in 2007 by Julia Grambo. Her mission was to help promote reading among children in a "fun" way, so she created this site. With the help of sponsors, and donations, celebrities, and authors granting rights to their books, the site was made possible. Julia also set up a telephone service where children can call a number and listen to books over the phone. The downside to the telephone service is that the site is based out of Las Vegas, Nevada so if you were to call from out of state, charges may apply.
The site is a lot like the StoryLine Online site I first explored and reported on. Books are read aloud by volunteer celebrities in the Las Vegas area and there are Lesson Plans available for teachers. Lesson plans include a summary of the book and sections for classroom and responding to the book.
Overall, the site is a great way to get young children interested in reading books. The lesson plans are also a great resource for teachers to have as they play the videos in the classroom.
