IRA Website Review Reflection

The last website I reviewed was http://www.learningtoday.com/. Although the website's main purpose is to promote its SmartTutor reading program software, I found many interesting literacy support tools for teachers. The resource section offers teachers an array of educational tools such as interactive activities, professional development resources, and printables.

First, the interactive activities include math, language, and reading games, interactive white board lessons, flashcards, and audio stories on podcast. The audios and visuals in each of these interactive activities are beneficial to students with needs or English Language Learners. Students can manipulate the feature while learning new vocabulary and reading and math skills. Secondly, teachers can add to their professional development by viewing videos, ebooks, or software blogs. These resources offer teachers information about teaching with technology, planning meaningful lessons, and steps in creating a professional learning network.. Finally, students and teachers will enjoy learning with engaging and colorful printable word searches, coloring pages, certificates, and bookmarks offered free of charge.

I think that this is a great resource for Guam's teachers because it targets learners with needs and ELL's.  The SmartTutor program is pretty pricey, ranging in the hundred dollars.  However, the free resources include tools local teachers may be searching for.  This is not my favorite literacy website, but it is helpful and may be effective in reading and writing instruction.
