BrainPOP
is an animated website that engages students for grades 3-12. There are more than 750 topics to
choose from. Each topic is
introduced by a short animated movie starring a boy named Tim and his robot
friend, Moby. They introduce
topics in the areas of Science, Math, English, Social Studies, Health, and
Technology and Arts/Music. Other
resources related to the topic include a quiz, activities, games, a timeline,
FYI, and Q & A. Quizzes come
in two formats, the Classic Quiz and the Review Quiz. In the Classic Quiz, students finish the quiz then see how
they did. While in the Review
Quiz, students must answer the question correctly in order to move to the next
question.
BrainPOP
can be used for individual students, groups, and whole classes. Teachers and students can keep a record
of the quizzes, games, and activities on the newly launched My BrainPOP. Content on BrainPoP is aligned with the
Common Core. There are many
resources available to teachers.
Graphic organizers, lesson plans, classroom posters, clipart, and more
are available but a subscription is needed to access all the resources. There are some resources that are free
but they are limited in number.
BrainPOP Educators is a free resource for teachers who create an account
on BrainPOP. Access to the site is
entirely free. However, the full
content on BrainPOP is still not accessible unless you have a subscription. A counterpart of BrainPOP is BrainPOP Jr. for the younger kids. Instead of Time and Moby, it is Annie and Moby who introduces the topics.
Click on the video below to learn how one teacher used a free video on BrainPOP Jr. about cyberbullying in her classroom. Hope this gives you some ideas. Enjoy!
