IRA Literacy Website #5

Website:  The Science Spot
    URL:   http://sciencespot.net/

This website was developed by Tracy Trimpe, a science teacher,  in 1999 as a way to share resources with other teachers.  This website offers free lesson plans, activities, worksheets, and project ideas for middle school science teachers.  Links are also available to other online lesson plans.   The Puzzle corner offers many puzzles that are ready to print.  The Idea Factory is filled with tips and ideas to help with the first days of school, the last days of school, classroom management, parent involvement, class starters, and holiday activities.  Also available is Trivia To Go.  This is a way for teachers to try a daily science trivia with students but don’t have a lot of extra time, just like myself.  You just choose a topic then download a set of ready to use trivia cards.  Topics include inventions, biology, genetics, chemistry, and astronomy.  Trivia To Go is a great classroom management tool when used at the beginning of class to help maintain order while taking attendance.  All the materials available are free for use by a teacher in their classroom or to share with another teacher.  The only thing Mrs. Trimpe asks is that you do not sell the material, you must cite the material’s original source and that you do not claim her lesson or other materials as your own work.  This website offers so many resources that any teacher can use in the classroom.
