Website and Google Earth Reflection

For the past week I have been exploring both Book Adventure and Google Earth.

Book Adventure is a free website dedicated to motivate and encourage children in grade K-8 to love reading. With Book Adventure, parents, teachers, and students are able to search for books according to grade or reading level, genres, titles, or authors.  What is great about this site are the quizzes Book Adventure provides for the 8,000 books on its site. With these quizzes we can find out whether or not the students understood the story.  Now, here is where I believe students will be motivated to read more. Book Adventure offers prizes that we as teachers create online and the more quizzes the students take the more points they earn to get a prize. Want to keep track of your students readings? Book Adventure allows teachers to create a virtual website where we can monitor what are students are reading and how many they have read. So, if you will like to visit Book Adventure log into www.bookadventure.com.  It is a great site for teacher, parents, and students and it is free to register. The only downfall is, the books are not readable online.  Book Adventure serves more as a library where students with the help of their parents and teacher can search for books online that are geared towards their level and then go and borrow from the library or purchase the book on their own.

As for Google Earth, I have never used this website before. I am currently exploring this site into depth and actually having trouble figuring out what lesson I would like to teach. Google Earth has many features from street view to volcanoes. There are still a few more features that I need to explore, with a little more practice and exploring I believe it will get easier. Wish me luck!
