IRA Literacy Website #6

Website:  Science Kids
     URL: http://www.sciencekids.co.nz/

The goal of Science Kids is to provide resources for teachers and parents to help make science understandable and enjoyable for kids.  There are fun science experiments, science facts, online games, free activities, ideas, lesson plans, photos, quizzes, videos, songs, and science fair projects.  There are thirty science topics to choose from covering everything from plants and animals to space.  Also included under Topics are sections devoted to amazing science, humor, and weird science.  For example, did you know that there are more tigers kept privately as pets than there are left in the wild?  Did you know that some types of bamboo have been known to grow as much as one meter in just one day?  Also included are some crazy experiments like making fake snot.  While making snot, the students learn how it relates to sugar and protein.  Another experiment is making quicksand and learning how it works without getting injured.
All information and resources are free.  You do not need to register or become a member to access any of the information.  The information on this website is engaging, fun, and informative.  It catches your attention and keeps you coming back for more. Take a look at this music video by They Might Be Giants about the Elements that you can find on this website. Hope you enjoy it as well as I did!
