If you never subscribed to Time magazine, you might remember reading it after picking it up on the end tables of a your doctor's office.  Time magazine includes articles about world issues such as politics, health, life and culture, etc.  They have created a new magazine geared towards children in elementary and middle school.  Time for Kids is a weekly magazine that can be used in the classroom as a supplementary resource with a subscription payment.  However, the Time for Kids website offers a database of free articles in digital print and videos written by children and other authors.

My website review focused on the benefits Time for Kids presents to students and teachers.  I discovered that the website also offers homework help that gives step-by-step writing instruction and other internet tools students may need for writing. The website is designed to enhance reading and writing skills.  When used as a supplement in lessons, it can even aid discussion to foster communication and higher order thinking skills.

I mostly like Time for Kids because the article are interesting and engaging nonfiction selections. The articles are roughly four to five paragraphs long, keeping students focused on the topic.  Other features help students receive a digital learning experience that they might not get from textbooks.  It encourages explorations of places and people around the world.

In time, I would probably use this website when I teach about informational texts.  However, the website does not offer additional teaching resources such as lesson plans or activity guides.  I would have to design my own lesson and implement the material found on the website.  I would definitely offer the address of the website to my students.  That way, when they engage in writing assignments, they can get additional student models of writing to aid them in writing their papers.  They can also use this site as an informational resource for research writing.
