Reading is Fundamental: Literary Website Review Reflection

I wrote a review about the website http://www.rif.org.  Here is a brief summary that highlights my findings on RIF:

RIF is a non-profit organization that aims to provide support and resources to the American family.  It is designed to improve literacy among the at-risk child and multi-lingual child. The site has many great features for children, parents, educators, and volunteers.

The site has two links just for children. The Reading to Leading link, for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers include a number of engaging games, stories, and activities that promote language and reading development. The Reading Planet link is a kids club for children ages six to fifteen. This portion of the website uses technology to lure youngsters into interactive reading.  Children and teens who sign up for the club gain access to personalizing a homepage, many interesting articles and interviews of famous people, stories, activities, and games.  The website also supports families by providing literary activities to do interactively and at home.

RIF's primary mission is to motivate children to read.  Through the generosity from individuals and well-known corporations, RIF carries out their mission. Educators, parents, and children should explore  http://www.rif.org.  Visitors will see the different components RIF uses to encourage reading, donating to the literacy community, and becoming an advocate for reading.  They will also find that RIF is an effective program because they donate so many resources, books, and literary services to inspire children to become life-long readers.

  1. I remember RIF when I was a kid. They had commercials on KGTF after shows like Sesame Street and the Electric Company. It is a great organization.

  2. I had the privelige of teaching at a school that participated in the RIF program. It was such a joy to see the anticipation and excitement when each child got their free book. This is a wonderful organization.
