Reflection #5

ReadWriteThink is a website that would be an excellent source of effective literacy. The first thing I like about this site is that it is free. Thanks to the International Reading Association, the National Council of Teachers of English and Verizon Thinkfinity, anyone can sign up and access the tool and resources. This lesson I found is identified to be used at the 6th to 8th grade level, but I feel that I will still be able to use this in my 9th grade Physical Science class, with minor adjustments.
For the "Prereadidng Strategy", these are some of the tools and resources Valarie Adair set up as a literacy tool for the students. I was very interested in the amount of information this site and the author provided in this lesson. Most of the students are not motivated or don't see the importance to read or participate in literacy skills. This section is divided by Preview, Standards, Resources and Preparation, just to name a few.
If you like what you have read in the Preview section, of course you want to know if this strategy is aligned to your state standard. Although Guam is not in the drop down list, I would email the site administrator and find out how to resolve the problem of Guam not being an option.
The author of this resource included materials, student interactives and printouts she used to carry out this lesson.
There is also a suggested preparation procedure she listed to help you or the teacher to carry out the lesson effectively.

I think it is great how much detail you put in this blog. I love the screen shots you took. I think it is a great idea.
