Reyes: IRA Literacy Site #2

I selected the website www.ABCmouse.com Early Learning Academy.  ABC mouse is a "global education initiative" of the group "Age of Learning, Inc."  It is a literacy and learning site for children ages 2-6 years of age.  Full access to the site requires a $7.95 monthly or $79.00 yearly membership fee, which can be cancelled at any time.  There are no pop-up ads or links to other sites.  The site advertises a full six-level online curriculum with 450 lessons and over 5,000 learning activities.  Children can explore the site with their parents or on their own.
Children will be able to practice skills in Reading, Math, Science, Art, and Music.  Members to the site will be able to track their progress as they work through the lessons and learning activities.  The lessons and activities consist of books, puzzles, games, songs, art activities, and even printables related to specific topics.  Each lesson offers children a variety of ways to learn.
All the lessons and activities have been developed by teachers and Early Childhood Education learning experts.  The site is updated constantly and has received numerous awards, such as the Editor's Choice Award, Parent's Choice GOLD Award, Teacher's Choice Award, and Mom's Choice Awards GOLD.  The site's Curriculum Board and Production Team work diligently to keep the content fresh, engaging, and up-to-date for early learners.

This site has a lot to offer.   Children will enjoy exploring their virtual "classroom" and seeing their progress on the virtual "school bus path."  They will love the personalization of their membership when they create their very own classroom avatar.  The member homepage looks just like the ideal early childhood classroom.  Children will be able to practice and learn important early literacy skills while having fun and becoming proficient users of technology.  Parents will be able to help their child practice and learn at their own pace, which will lend to success in the real life classroom.

  1. Sounds like this is a great site and not so expensive. Especially if you compare it to the Leap Frog game, you can spend more than $79.

    1. Yes, I think for all that it has to offer, it will be worth spending on the membership fee. It's just a matter of whether people are willing and able to invest in it. I have found that the quality of certain paid sites really make them worth the money; however, I will never stop loving anything that is useful and free!
