PBS KIDS
PBS KIDS (http://pbskids.org/) is a nonprofit
media enterprise owned and operated by the nation’s 356 public television
stations. Their mission is to make a positive impact on the lives of children
through curriculum-based entertainment with positive role models and content
designed to nurture a child’s total well-being. With a 360-degree approach to
learning and reaching children, PBS KIDS offers a full spectrum of media and
technology to build knowledge, critical thinking, imagination and curiosity.
PBS KIDS encourages children to interact as respectful citizens in a diverse
society. By involving parents, teachers, caregivers and communities as learning
partners, PBS KIDS helps to empower children for success in school and in life.
PBS KIDS content
helps children from ages 2-8 begin to read, as well as develop in the four key
areas of childhood development – cognitive, social, emotional and physical. As
a critical area of development, PBS is strengthening its offerings around
science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), inviting children to explore
and develop interest and appreciation for the natural and life sciences through
programs and animated cartoons, including Sid the Science Kid and Curious
George.
PBS KIDS also offers
a website for parents (http://www.pbs.org/parents/). PBS Parents
is a trusted resource that’s filled with information on child development and
early learning. It provides parents with educational games and activities to do
as a family, as well as “The PBS Parents Newsletter” where you could find
parenting tips, kid-friendly recipes, interactive games, and articles.
PBS KIDS offers
a website for teachers as well (http://www.pbslearningmedia.org/). On this
website, there are lesson plans, activities, and videos for all content areas
through grades Pre-K to 12th grade. The activities and lessons
posted are also aligned with the Common Core State Standards, which is a major
plus because the public school have recently implemented these standards along
with the Guam Department of Education standards.
PBS KIDS is a
great literacy website. The colorful and whimsical website is kid friendly and
grabs children attention easily. It includes educational games and activities
for all ages, content areas, and interests. The website also includes great
information for both parents and teachers to use. Children have the opportunity
to learn alongside with their favorite cartoon characters. PBS KIDS makes
learning fun!

PBS Kids is such a great resource. I know my own kids have enjoyed this site and don't realize they are learning at the same time.
ReplyDeleteI love PBS Kids! I grew up watching Sesame Street and loved that my girls grew up watching it, too. Even better are all the shows that feature math and science, like Zoom.
ReplyDeletePBS Kids is a site I am very familiar with. I use it weekly with my students. There are many fun, interactive games that help me reinforce math, science and technology skills!
ReplyDeleteI grew up with PBS educational shows and can fathom the many possibilities it has in enhancing student learning! I will explore this site to look for resources that I can use for my classroom and, more importantly, to reminisce my childhood!
